I am not an electrician by any means but I figure this is a simple procedure. Can’t seem to find anyone to do this simple job. I have a 100 amp service in my garage with only 3 20 amp circuits. I need to add a 30 amp 220 for a car lift being put in. there’s nothing in the way as this is a new metal garage. The run is 50 ft at the most. Can I use strand 10 gauge? Will also be putting it in conduit. Can’t find the solid wire in conduit less than 250 ft which is so overkill.

10 gauge is correct for that application. I'd look to buy the wire online if you need less than 250ft. Plenty of places online will sell it by the foot at a reasonable-ish rate.

Just verify all the places you're making terminations stranded is considered acceptable per the manufacturer's instructions.

I agree, #10 is the correct wire.

Color doesn't matter except you can't use green, gray or white for the 2 hots but for single phase I usually use 1 black and 1 red. And green for the ground.

buy 1 100' roll of black #10 THWN stranded & cut in half. then buy 1 50' roll of green #10 THWN stranded. or if the conduit is metallic and complete from panel to lift, you could use the conduit as the EGC

Not sure what "solid wire in conduit" refers to. Regardless you can use stranded or solid 10ga in conduit.

I hope by stranded you don't mean flexible cordage, like SOOW

Electrical Wiring is not a "Hobby". It should be done by Professionals to maintain the Safety of the installation and the users.

go to Home depot and get cut wire. They sell lots of stuff by the foot
