Quoting Closed Threads

I wanted to quote a post from the closed HOA thread in the current HOA thread and I would like to know how this would be viewed by the Admin. Is it allowed, or even ethical, to quote from a closed thread?

The post I wanted to use had nothing to do with Nazi analogies which was the reason that the first thread got closed.

No - but my question was meant to be directed more to the general principle than to a specific topic.

I seem to remember that the question came up long ago, but I don't recall the final resolution. Clearly quoting extensively - or trying to revive - a closed thread would be frowned upon, but what about a single post that contained information that was relevant to a current thread?

I don't think you can, and they do it for a reason. Usually the same reason the thread was closed.

What you can do, and this is just for quite in general. Is copy and past the actula text into your new message. Then put the HTML quote boxes around it. Finally you can copy and paste the HTML of the thread into the quote. It won't work like a regular linked quote, but it will get your point across me thinks.

Thanks for that zkling - I might try that. I've quoted posts from one thread into another in the past by copy and pasting the whole quote - from and including QUOTE to /QUOTE as it appears in the post preview - into the new thread.

My concern was more about where the line was drawn when directly quoting material from a closed thread.

Maybe you just have to look at each case on its merit - obviously quoting something that was related to the closure of the thread would be wrong, but quoting say, a demonstrably true fact would be OK ....

Sorry to mislead you old guy - I tried to edit the title as soon as I saw the mistake, but it seems that you can't make changes to it once the thread is started.
