Hello all. Was hoping someone from Racedeck might chime in here. I purchased a stack of Racedeck tiles 8 years ago for the garage in our old house and they have stood the test of time extremely well. We recently moved house and have just had a new double garage built. I brought all the tiles with me from the old garage with the intention of installing them in the new one. The garage is a pretty conventional layout with a small recessed alcove on the rear wall which will be where my workbench and shelving/tools will go. In order to ensure the tiles were square with the longest sides of the garage (either side of the doors), I marked out using a plumbline, the exact centre on the floor from the central pillar between the garage doors to the rear wall, that way I know the tiles are dead central and the cuts I make along the sides, for the red border diamond tiles, will be parallel to the wall. So far so good.
At the front behind the doors, and spanning the width of the garage are the first row of whole red border tiles where I fitted the black ramp/edge tiles. The doors are the roller type and the idea was to allow the bottoms of the doors to sit on the edge of the ramp/edge tiles. This is where I discovered a major problem!!
It appears the front wall or perhaps the doors themselves (or their frames) are not square with the remaining three walls, or perhaps the wall itself is running out of true. It's too late to address that now, but the net result is that at one corner the edge tiles sit flush against the door and at the other corner by the other door, the edge tiles are a good 60mm away. I measured along the two sides of the 3 rows I have so far clipped together that span the width of the garage and they are dead centre along my plumbline and the gaps between the side walls and the edges of the assembled tiles is absolutely parallel. Because of my OCD this is driving me nuts!!
If I orientate the tiles so that the edge tiles ARE parallel with the doors, then there is a noticeable taper as you move back towards the rear wall, between the edges of the tiles and the two side walls, which means when I cut my red side border tiles, you will see a very obvious increase in border tile size on one side wall and a decrease on the other. Neither option is desirable.
My question then is this. I was going to stick with the first orientation, that is to say, align the tiles with the central plumb-line so I know they are true to the two sides and rear wall, and then remove the front black bevel edge tiles from the very front row of span wise red border tiles. Next attach another row or red border tiles and allow the doors to close on top of them. Next mark a line parallel to the doors along their bottom edge and 3 inches away and then raise the doors. Next cut along these lines for each garage door. The front edge of these additional red tiles should now be parallel to the doors.
Here is my problem. Having now cut off the connecting lugs on the red tiles, how can I reattach the bevel/ramp tiles? I had read one thread where you could possibly glue them together. I cut all my tiles with a TCT bladed mitre saw for clean cuts so I just need a way to fix the bevelled tiles to the cut red border tiles, in a permanent and strong enough fashion, so that they wont become dislodged by vehicles driving in and out of the garage
The idea is that the rubber seal strip on the bottom of each door, will just rest on these bevel ramp tiles, which actually acts to improve the seal between the doors and the floor, since the concrete underneath is not perfectly flat and allows light in when viewed from inside and therefore wind/water, whereas sitting on the bevelled tiles they do not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
