I am using a 45000BTU unit for a 28x30x10 that is well insulated, R16 walls and r40 in the ceiling.

I keep the temp set at 10*c and love it. The unit cycles at undr 15minutes an hour in -25*C outside temps.

I have it on the wall opposite the overhead doors angled at 45* with the thermostat on the middle of the side wall.

It draws fresh air in a 4" tube and exhaust in a 2" tube inside the 4" tube. Only one hole to drill.

I like them.
The only problem is if you like to hang stuff from the celing for storage, you may "shade" a spot.
But the heat will work it's way around.
If your lights shine through, the heat will radiaiate through.
A 24 foot unit will put you within 3 feet at each end. Good enough.
Even 2 ten foot tubes spaced out evenly.
Think of the heat rays like light waves. They travel in the same kind of path.

I have a 26x30x10 garage with poor wall insulation but good attic insulation. I have a 40k btu, 12' long unit & it works like a charm. Mine's mounted to the picture above at the head of the garage in the center.

I was set on Radiant heat until I heard of all the draw backs, some stated above:
- need up to 18inches from ceiling or wall -i.e., take up a lot of space
- they heat what ever is in front of them - i.e., your head, your car roof....
- the heat doesn't reach ground level easily (can install a fan I guess)
- can be expensive
(Same with in-floor heating, but opposite problems - lots of pre-work and expense, takes long time to change temperature, heats up under cars mostly...)
I went with a MAXX forced air gas heater and it's awesome. it fits right up on the ceiling in the corner, blows the air across the garage, can be set with programmable thermostat...The floor is never really cold (and it gets really cold here) so I'm glad I didn't go with in-floor heat and I have lots of space for shelves, etc
