Is there a known production time period for Record vises based upon the casting of the RECORD name being flush or raised upon the surface as with these 2 different examples ?

Also, with this handle, can someone give a basic explanation as to how patent dates work wth old tools ?? Short of having an exact casting date or verifying paperwork (and assuming this handle is original to the vise) is a production year just educated guessing ?

I should clarify....the No.3 on the right has what seems to be a frame around the name where the one on the left doesn't. The unframed version looks older to me.
