Removing chrome from tools

Does anyone know the best way to remove chrome that is partially worn already from tools?

I soaked some in vinegar to remove a bit of flaking chrome in a few places. I left it over night. The next day the vinegar had worked underneath 1/2 the chrome and practically floated off. The rest came off real easy with a wire wheel.

sandpaper on a handheld machine. Try finest grid first.
