replace fluorescent shop lights with led

MY 24x24 shop has (12) 4ft typical shop lights mounted in (6) groups of 2; essentially making (6) 8ft lights. They are starting to need ballasts and/or bulbs; only about 1/2 of them work at any given time. They also struggle to get going in the cold.

Is there a downside to removing them completely and instead installing your typical "light socket" and screw-in led light bulbs? i was thinking (12) 100watt equivilant led bulbs. the wiring is already there; the switches are already there; the ceiling is painted white to reflect light down; i do not have any type of height or hang-down issues

I have these style outdoor (indoors) LED flood lights in my shop with 12ft ceilings.
I used 30w units in general use and 50w where I tend to work most.
have 9 units in my main 24x24x12 area. and provides sufficient/ample illumination
but your eyes/shop needs may vary.
but each 30w unit was less watts than (1) 4ft bulb.
they shed ALOT of light, you can't look at them directly. so plan accordingly.

can you elaborate what is involved in the conversion? i have the typical "old school" flourescents

There are direct-wire LED tubes available that allow you to bypass the ballasts. Plan to spend about $10-20 per tube.
