A while back, I scored an old 60s (I think) Craftsman floor model drill press, model 11324630. Here's a quick pic of the ol' workhorse:

I'd like to replace the original Jacobs 633C 1/2" chuck with a 3/4" chuck. I've done the searches, and I've looked at tutorials on Youtube, but I'm having no luck removing the chuck. Are there any tricks I don't know about, or is there something I'm missing?

Why do you want to replace that chuck with a 3/4" chuck? Really anything past a 1/2" shank is too much for that machine. Manufactures use to put the proper size chuck on a machine to act as a fuse and limit the size of bit a press would take. Thanks to recent times and ploys to appease customers at all expenses some manufactures are now putting ridiculous size chucks on tiny presses.

That is IIRC a JT33-34C. It is a JT33 taper with a threaded collar on it. I am like 98% sure (note, not positive) that they do not make them in anything larger than 1/2" max cap. Craftsman, WT, delta and a few others used those threaded clucks back in the day.

To remove the chuck you need a spanner wrench to fit the hole in the threaded collar about the chuck. You then unthread the collar and it forces the chuck to pop off its taper.

Leave the chuck and use reduced shank bits when you need them

Otherwise, soling is correct on how to remove it

I guess I can always find a buddy with a 3/4 DP to bum off of if I should ever need it. Or, sell off my bigger bits and get a decent set of S&D bits.
Anyway, it's good to know how to remove it anyway, in case I ever have to replace it. Thanks for your help.
