Anyone re-purpose insulated overhead door panels for anything?

I was thinking for using them for either a barn door (hinged double door) or as wall or ceiling panels in a small part of the open "car port" I build on the side of my pole barn.

Anyone done this? Thoughts?

Mike

Not an insulated panel, but an old wood overhead door panel:

I bought three 16x16 used metal uninsulated overhead doors for $100 in 1991. It took two decades to use all of that metal!
The last scraps became a 6x6 overhead door on my lawn tractor shed last year.
Before that, I walled in my pallet rack, roofed the dog kennel, masked off several buildings for spraypainting, skirted a trailer, and made 60 feet of workbench doors with matching drawer fronts:

They make great sheds :)

In reality they are SIPs ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structural_insulated_panel )... Just a little thinnner than the typical construction ones... Limit is your imagination as to what you want to build.

I've got at least 6 out-buildings made of them now... 4x4 corner posts (usually pair of 2x4s) to "frame", don't forget a roof backbone/hip/<insert favorite term> (usually 2x6 for me) then sheet with panels (I like pre-drilling and using 1/4x3" lags with the fancy rubber/washer for steel roofs/siding) A few tubes of silicone and she's sealed up tighter than almost any stick built structure.

I recently heard the one I built in '00 is still standing... So longevity can be good.

I saved a few 16 ft x 2 ft insulated garage door panels (hail damage replaced by insurance) that I'm planning to make shelves up near ceiling of garage. Lots of options to build hangers out of wood, steel, or even 3/8" rod like those to hang heaters.
