Returning Redbacks?

So about 2 weeks ago I told my Matco dealer that I was interested I'm some Redback boots. He said he didn't have any on the truck to try on but if I told him my size he'd order me a pair. I gave him the size and he converted it into the Australian size and got them ordered.

Last week he shows up with the boots and I try them on. I tell him they're a little tight and he says "Oh they take about 10 days to break in." I was skeptical so I asked him if I could just try them for the week and he said yes.

3 days and I was limping because they were rubbing my calf so badly. I refused to wear them after the 3rd day. I put my old boots back to use.

I'm a little worried though because in my haste to set the hoist while I was wearing the Redbacks, I scuffed up the toes a bit. I'm not sure how my dealer will handle it because there is no way I'm paying top dollar for boots that I can't even wear. He's a nice guy, but I can't help but get the feeling that I'm gonna get burned on this. Anyone on here had a similar experience? How did it pan out for you?

You have to break them in. Wear them a little bit at a time for a few days and they will be the best pair of boots you ever bought. I just ordered a new pair to replace my 5 year old ones.

good boots need zero break in , which is why I insist on red wing , only had one problem after a model update and promptly got a new pair , only deal with the dealer , try on several pairs

You should always buy boots/shoes at the end of the day after walking all day. If the boots are not comfotable when you try them on the never will be.

Wow, Red wing makes boots that fit every single human foot perfectly right out of the box :wtf:

I have worn this pair every day for 5 years. I'm replacing them because of the split in the side. Break them in you will be glad you did.

If they're so bad you're limping, no amount of break-in is going to help. They'll stretch a little and get more comfortable after a while, but they're not going to magically up a size or width.

If the dealer won't take them back, you could toss them up in the classifieds on here.

Buying boots without trying them on is always a bad idea...they're just like any clothes, different brands mean different sizes will be cut differently. When I got my boots last year, a size 12 EE Wolverine fit me perfectly...but I couldn't get my foot inside a size 13 Justin.

Since these boots are a slip fit, the leather needs to stretch to your foot.

I tell my customers if they hurt now, they'll hurt in a week. They should be snug enough not to allow your feet to move around. If they move, it will get worse & you'll get blisters.

trying them out, to me, means that I use them at home on the carpet, not at work where they become scuffed. The dealer can't resell them in a used condition. I think selling them on GJ would be the right decision.

Apple,

I'm 5 months into my first pair of Redbacks and they are by far the most comfortable pull-on boot I have worn. I wore Redwing pull ons for about 12 years before the Redbacks.

I went through the exact pain your feeling with the Redbacks. Raw skin around where the top of the boot meets your leg and the feel of every leg hair being pulled from your leg. It took about 10-14 days of full usage to stretch the elastic sides to be comfortable. After the initial break in these boots are awesome. Work through the slight discomfort as it will be worth it in the end.

You'll have to make your best call on the fit, but Redbacks are great. I used to wear Blundstone until they moved mfg to Asia. RBs are very good, and I currently have on my first pair of Rossi. All very similar. There are a couple others that are less widely available in the US (RM Williams, Blue Steel)

Well he took them back and simply charged me a 10% restocking fee (~$30) and ordered me another pair a size and a half bigger. He originally gave me the first pair at a discounted price and even after the restocking fee, I'll still come out under retail so I'm happy. I think that's more than fair.

You don't need to walk or work in a boot or shoe to break it in, just put them on after you get home for a couple hours while watching TV etc. If they don't start feeling broken in after a week, they likely won't ever.

Your truck guy is going to take it in the shorts on those scuffed up boots.

Just about to pull the trigger on a pair of REDBACK LACE-UP BOOTS , "Crazy Horse" style?? How do you size em? Wear "Wolverines" now 10.5W. Redback chart says UK9.5 fits. One width fits all they say?

I wear a 10.5/11 shoe, but a size 9 Redback. I figure they're kinda like hockey skate sizing, I wear a size 9 Graf skate. They fit snug, but not overly tight on my feet, but it's probably best to try on a couple sizes to see what feels comfortable.

I just found this forum and made an account just to say: I've had my redback Bosnall boots for 8 years now. I did absolutely nothing at any point to take care of them. Theyre an amazing boot. I had to get a new pair because I left them in the blazing sun and the hard toe thing inside became unglued. I've left them outside. I've acid washed decks in them. I've had them way too close to fires. These boots are amazing. I got my new pair today and they are so so tight, but I compared the size and it's the same. I then remembered when I wore them all the time due to breaking my toe and needing to protect it and noticed the boots stretch like crazy.

My fave part of your resurrecting this thread is that ImageShack in the 11 years since it was posted replaced his image with a big NO WAR poster.
:lol_hitti

Shame the OP, Appleyard, never came back to post how it went with his dealer. He hasn't been sen since 2013 so I don't guess he ever will.

A couple post up Oct 11 2011 he said that the dealer took them back with a small restocking fee but I guess we'll never know about the replacement boots

Just in case in the 10 years since this post was started and the 8 years since the poster apparently departed...

Red Backs run at least 1 size small in the US conversion. I have a pair, great boots but when I bought mine the lady at the shoe store knew they run small. I generally wear an 11-1/2 or 12, she brought me a 12-1/2 and I ended up leaving with a size 13.

I didn't know you could buy work boots off the tool truck. Thank you, werkinit for bumping this ancient thread.

Redbacks are the best, still made in Australia

Cant say the same about the more popular Blundstones...
