I am finally starting my pole building...........:bounce:

I plan to heat the building with a reznor unit and would like some info on sizing and unit selection. No offense, but if there are any HVAC guys I would like the info from them.

building is 30 x 50 x 16 , R 19 walls, R 38 ceiling and I am in eastern iowa... on LP.

Thanks for looking

Well, I am not an HVAC professional, but I can do basic math. :)

Figure 45-50 BTU/sqft = 75,000btu at maximum.

That's a good estimate. I ran the loads quickly in my modeling software, and came in a little under that. Assumed you would want it heated to 65 F in winter.

75k sounds decent since it's oversized a tad. That'll help since I assume you won't be heating it 24/7. Oversizing will allow it to heat up quicker.

We just had a Reznor tube heater, 100,000 btu, 50' long burner tube installed in our 40x60 quonset.

Thanks for your feed back.

I plan to keep it around 45 all the time, then bump it up when working in it.

I will go with the 75K.

One thing to keep in mind...a unit heater is not designed to handle wide temperature fluxuations. What happens is over time the heat exchanger rots out when fired when the building is really cold. The heat cold air hitting the heat exchanger condenses inside the heat exchanger. If the heat exchanger is stainless theres less to worry about. It will still last a long time but not as long as designed. food for thought

considering your keeping it at 45 all the time that will help.
