Have a vintage 6x48 Rockwell sander. Bought new idler drum (Renovo) but do not know how to remove old one, Took nuts off both sides, removed retaining ring, now what ?
Hello. Congratulations on your very nice sander. If you go over to www.OWWM.com and look under Delta or Rockwell for your model number, you might find a parts diagram that might indicate what if any other parts need to be removed. There may even be someone on their forum that has done this before. From what I saw, the shaft should probably press out of the drum, but be careful and "do no harm" or you will end up with pieces. Best of luck and welcome to the forum. Stay around for a while and you can learn a lot from these guys.

In theory the drums should be a slip fit on the shaft, but often after decades of rust and galvanic reaction the drums can become stuck on. May need a hydraulic press. Regardless of removal method, be very careful with the casting, it can break easily.
