I am planning on a 40' x 50' or 60' pole barn construction. I want two 12w x 14'h roll up doors. They will go on the on the gable end which will be the 40' side. How tall do I need to plan on makeing the eve's. Could I get by with 14' or do I need to go to 15' or 16'? Some where I read you need two feet over the door. It being on the gable end I would have a little more where the doors will be located. I guess I want to be able to put a RV inthere if I ever win the lottery.

You'll need enough room for the rolled up door itself to sit above the opening. Over here they suggest 1' for a standard 7' opening so 2' for a 14' high door sounds about right to me.

My garage is 40x60. The door company recommends 18-24 inches. Mine has 14' walls and I installed one 12'x12' door 3' from the side on the gable end. The door is roughly 8 inches from the bottom of the truss after I installed it. I would allow 24 inches unless you are going to put the door close to the center of the building.

I installed my doors myself (by myself) it took about 6 hours to install each one. Hard part was the 12 foot door. I used a chain hoist and had to regroup when I coudn't lift it high enough on the first lift. It was ugly but I got it done:headscrat:thumbup:

Well the reason for the talls doors is for a motor coach or something similar. I just dont want to build something for that intention and later find out I cant get the thing in there. Plus as far a building cost its not much more expensive to build with 16' walls versus 14' walls for a 12' door. I have no idea how tall a motor coach would be. They appear to be pretty dang tall.

Google: Trac-Rite Door or call them (608) 8377899. I used their door on my compresser entrance and is a first class product and pretty easy to install. If I ever build another shop I will use them again.

I installed a 12w x 14h sectional door, and love it. The height has come in very useful and is also a great way to get lots of ventilation. Also, the height allows me to get my portable gantry crane thru the door without having to lower it, which is nice.

Well I think that 13'-6" is the height limit on Semi trucks. So I figured if I can can one of those in there I will be able to put an RV in there.
