Am new at this so if I foul up....anyway have carport off garage 2/12 roof w/2x8s 24 oc. and 171/2 ft. span, (I know, I bought it that way, should be 2x12s) we are getting record snowfall this year and I hope to not have sagging 2x8s this spring. Talked to an engineer at Simpson, he said their NCA bridging is only thing they have that would work, trouble is they don't make a size for 24 oc only 16. Anybody have an idea short of replacing entire roof? Thanks, rlg

One possibility - Cut the span in half using temporary built up beam and adjustable screw post columns. This should get you thru winter....use permanent columns come spring..

Thanks, but I would have to use the space for something other than carport, what would 3/4 strips of plywood glued and screwed on both sides of 2x8 gain me as far as load capacity? thanks rlg

Finally came to that conclusion myself, 2x8s on 12 oc would make an acceptable span. thanks for replies.
