Rough-In for Strip Lights

I am trying to finish up my rough-in this weekend so I can get my inspection early next week. I have everything almost finished except for my cables from the light switches to the locations where fluorescent strip lights will be mounted. I am not sure whether I need to mount a box to the bottom chord of the trusses in each spot where a light will be located or if I just need to anchor down the NM cable and leave slack to pull down later. I am using the Lithonia 8' Tandem T8 fixtures from Home Depot. The channel in them can be used as a junction, so I don't think I need boxes. I assume I can just go from my switch to the first light, from there to the second light, etc., making my connections inside the light once the drywall is installed and the lights are mounted?

Yep. For strip lights and track lighting (and other fixtures that are not required to be fastened to a box) you can staple your NM to the truss and leave enough slack to get into the fixture later. This is enough to pass the rough inspection. If you have a wiring plan/lighting plan you can post it near the panel (usually that's where your permit is), and the inspector can understand what you are doing. In the alternative, or in addition, take a sharpie and label the stub of NM "to fluorescent strip light".

You need to remind your drywall guy to put a hole in the drywall and pull the wire through when he does the ceiling (or you can push the wire through yourself later if there is good attic access). I like to staple the NM to the truss directly above where I want the wire pulled through.

I did NM stubs in the manner you propose when I wired my house, and the inspector accepted it without comment.
