rough in wiring for dummies

I am about to start wiring my new pole barn - I am mechanically inclined however I have never attempted to run electrical wiring before.

When I built my home, I had a 100A breaker and 2 gauge wire stubbed out on back of house. I plan to run 2 gauge wire (60ft) to a 100A panel in the shop.

My main question is how to run the wiring. I have searched the internet looking for pictures ( I like pictures) - something like a drawing that will show how the wires should be run.

Do I just run one contunious wire to the recepticles and let the wire dead end at the last one? I know I can not overload the circuit - I do not want to put over 80% load on any one breaker - maybe only 4 on each breaker

I plan to have someone experienced to make the final connections at the panel - I simply want to rough in the wiring

I got the book Wiring Simplified based on many recommendations on different sites. It was VERY helpful in helping me understand the code basics as well as practical tips and common practice. I'd recommend it.

The one thing that got me on my rough-in inspection was something I never heard or thought of. Any place wiring is to enter a nail-on box (recepticle, light switch, etc...), the wire needs be fastened down below the box so if water runs down the wire somehow, it hits a low point before running into the box itself. Everything else was pretty straitforward. The aforementioned book should definately help.

Agreed, if water is present NM cable is not permitted.

If you're inspector actually called you on that, he's a *****. That's not code, that's made up code!

The inspectors around here cite code references when they call you on a violation.....

Gate a electrician to run the main feed it will save you a lot of time. then wire up the rest your self.

I also got the book "Code Check" from Home Depot. Helped alot.
