Running compressor air line

Anyone have an opinion on the right materials and method to do this? I have a new shop, a new Quincy compressor and want to run some sort of lines to strategic points. I have a friend recommending black iron pipe, ball valves regulator and filters. I want to be sure to have the best (for the price) clean air, etc.

Black iron is a great choice if you don't mind the thread cutting. The rapidair products also seem like good stuff (I use their 3/4" flexible product but in retrospect would have preferred the rigid fastpipe. They kill you on the fittings so price out the whole system you want before committing to it. Copper works well also if you don't mind sweating or brazing the joints, although it has gone up in price a LOT and probably isn't cheaper than either iron or rapidair.

Don't use pvc. It's not safe. Enough said.

Copper is plummeting in price but I suppose everyone will drag their feet lowering it.

I used the RapidAir MaxLine and am happy with it. If you need extra fittings over what come in a kit they are kinda pricey, but being able to bend it means you don't need many elbows, but you might need extra tees for drops.

I just ran black iron in mine, It was my choice for the durability reasons. Copper was only about $2.50 more in 1/2" and $5 more in 3/4" for 10 ft sticks, So the price difference was not horrible either way. But I had access to a thread cutter only 2-3 block from my place and prefer the look and durability of the black pipe.

I would do ¾" black iron with ½" quick connects personally.
