Scissors?

I seem to reach for scissors more and more in the garage lately and need something far better suited for heavy duty use than the wifes 'house' scissors.

I've seen some electricians scissors made by Klien and they look close to what I have in mind but they are a bit small. I think they are only 5" long.

I need something a little larger that I can use if my hand is gloved. Something that will cut through hvy duty zip ties, snip small gauge wire as well as cut parachute cord. More than anything I need something that will make quick work of my biggest pet peeve... that vacuum formed plastic that everything seems to be packed in these days.

I know there are better tools suited for each individual situation but a nice pair of 'man' scissors would get some good use in my garage.

Any ideas?

Fiskars Utility Shears

I've used a lot of scissors and in my opinion these are by far the best for all around cutting. The curved notch in the back is meant for cutting through thick wire, but it would probably work great on parachute cord also. The finger holes are large enough that you should be able to use them with gloves on.

I'm not sure if they are even still making this particular model beacause they do not show up on the Fiskars site and they are becoming harder to find.

Yeah... what Luckydevil said, or there are some heavier titanium-nitride coated shop shears made by Fiskars that I saw at either Lowes or HD (I think it was HD). They were about $12 IIRC. Oh, and apparently HD is having a 25% handtool sale going on right now until Dec 14, so you might want to check that out.

I use Cutco Supershears. I've had the same set for 20 years and they'll still cut through a penny.

Except for wire, offset sheet metal snips do a good job at cutting stuff. Not too expensive, and you can do curves, too.

forgot the e I have 2 pairs of them, all metal, handles have a really thick black paint on them. I like them because When they get loose I can just tighten them up, no idea how old they are, but they have performed well

Those are awesome shears! Made by Solingen in Germany. I keep a pair in the top drawer of my workbench.

I just bought these Fiskars shop shears at HD and they really deliver! Titanium Nitride coated (whoop-dee-do), 9.5", made in Finladn of all places!

And they're on sale for ~$11 at HD until Dec 14. I might go get another pair, seems that my wife likes the pair I just brought home.
