Shop Divider

I had a 72x40 pole barn built a few years ago, and I have been thinking of some type of divider between the shop part (32x40) and the storage part (40x40) so I do not heat the entire building during the winter months. The entire ceiling in both parts is insulated but only the shop part walls are insulated. That is, the storage part walls are not insulated. Also, no ceiling, just a peaked room.

I am thinking of some type of clear plastic divider in the rafters between the shop part and storage part. Then I thinking of some type of curtain that either rolls up or pulls apart. Anyone have any experience with doing something like that....what works...what doesn't...what is safe...what is not....???

build a real wall with a slider door ? 40'

20' solid wall 18'slider 2' solid wall 18' opening for summer months
or
10' solid wall 10'slider 10'slider 10' solid wall 20' center opening in summer

mine is 48' have 22' door

I don't see the curtain idea doing a thing other than slowing down drafts. You heating bill will be the same.
Do the wall thing with some insulation.

mine is 48' have 22' door

So, it tracked on the bottom and most of the weight on the bottom. I probably have to watch the weight on my rafters and ceiling joists or reinforce them.

my wall 2x6 24" centers on one row of blocks wall floats between truss's and and goes up even with top of bottom truss 2x6 then 2x6 run over 3 truss's each side of wall about every 5'
track is at top hung on a 2x6 nailed to the wall for 48' opening has 2x10 header for the 22'

In my old 40x60 I just use two large 20' tarps and attached them to the ceiling by sandwiching it under a 1x1 screwed to the ceiling, then attached another 1x to the bottom of the tarp to keep it from blowing around and to seal it to the floor. In the summer, I'd just roll it up and strap it to the ceiling to get it out of the way. Made the shop MUCH easier to heat...without it the double barrel wood burner couldn't make it 40 degrees...with it I could get 55 degrees or so.
