This has been kicking around the barn for decades, with a broken clamp that attaches the back, and covered with tan spray paint among other things. For no good reason I thought I would fix it (I rarely use a stool while working). I had never noticed before but the seat is steel-stamped "Gyro Dept" (it also has "John" scratched in it, and has been used as a sawhorse more than once). There is a manufacturer's name ink-stamped on the seat bottom but I can't make it out.
The back is adjustable and is somewhat springy. Since the cast-iron block which is part of the clamp says "Pat Applied For" I presume somebody must have thought he had a neat idea. I turned the stool around so the "Gyro Dept" shows on the front.
Other than one website selling "industrial" seating, these old stools don't seem to get much respect, so I thought I'd share a photo and ask who else uses similar furniture.
