Shumacher Battery Charger

My Shumacher SE-70MA, a 12/24v battery charger is not working properly. The nominal voltages the charger outputs are of course, 12v and 24v which are selectable on the front of the charger.

The output voltage is actually around 9.8v and 20.2v, not under a load.

My first thought is the voltage regulator is not working. Second, can this be fixed? The owners manual has a troubleshooting section, but this is of no help when it comes to disassembly and correcting the problem.

Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe one of the Diodes has gone bad. You can google diode bridge replacement and see how to check that. New Diode bridge might be 5 bucks, you can get a high current one.

Thanks, I'll try looking up a diode replacement. I'll let you know how it goes.

What is the symptom?

It's common for the volts to read low with no battery attached. Maybe more to it in your case but check the basics first.
