Simple Question

Very simple question here but I want to ask to get your guys suggestion.

I have a two car garage (not sure of the size but it looks like your basic two car garage) and one of the stalls has a oil change pit. I want to fill in the pit and resurface the garage floor. Any suggestions on how to get the pit filled and how much (ballpark) would it cost to accomplish it.

How big of a pit? Fill the pit with dirt, compact in layers. Then fill upper portion with 4-6" of crushed stone, compacted in layers. Depending on if there are any control joints near the hole, you may want to add a control joint around the perimeter. Drill into the sides of the current slab and insert rebar across the hole on both sides. This will prevent the new slab from rising/dropping and will tie it into the old slab.

I (well I managed the Job) did a job like this a few years ago but much larger four pits for servicing drill rigs. The system that bmwpower describes is what we did and it worked fine.

The job is not hard and could be done by any half interested handy person. I can’t assist with cost due to variations in construction costs but calculation is easy. You will need fill (calculate volume and get a price) just remember you are going to compact it so buy more, a compactor (hire for number of days you think it will take a weekend should be enough and you may get a cheap rate), builders plastic, reo, concrete, job done.

Give it a go, it’s hard to go wrong on a job that size and anything will be better than what you have.
