Single Wall or Double Wall pipe?

Just wondering if I need to run single wall or double wall stove pipe from my stove vertically straight up through the roof of my detached metal 48x32 garage? Some have said I can run single wall until I exit the roof or should I run double wall the entire way?

gotta have double wall through the roof if there are any combustibles around it (wood framing). i believe that is code everywhere. if not, at the min it's a good idea. once you exit, i think it is recommended to prevent condensation. that can be horribly corrosive if you have much sulfur in your oil. a plumber told me his friend must have gotten some unusually high sulfur fuel, as he had his double wall pipe eaten in one heating season.

The answer varies where you are in the country (or world). Best to check with you local authorities. Here it is double wall assuming wood stove.
