Serious site work on the new shop started this week with the arrival of heavy equipment, a large cat backhoe, D5 dozer and 8 yard Ford Dump Truck, with a detroit diesel 6-71.

Things have been slow at work this week, so I have been working with crew, up at dawn getting the equipment ready, working a full day clearing land, hauling wood, and burning stumps...

Goal is a 34x70 two level pole barn up the holler behind the cabin, on Unaka mountain, on the TN-NC border. Beautiful up here...

Here are some prelimary pics of the site, some of the wood I have cut and some of the stumps I am burning. I built a stump burning rig yesterday, a BRAND NEW 40lb propane tank, a 350,000 btu/hr brush burner and a extra hand truck.

Enjoy,

Howard

Looks like a good start there Howard. It also looks like a heck-a-lotta wood there too, you should have wood to burn until the cows come home!

I love that area, I grew up just over the mountain in Boone, and pics like yours always make me wish we could afford to move back.

Best of luck on the build, looking forward to more pics, any of the cabin?

We are planning on heating the shop with wood...went through a stack of chains however. Tree clearing cost nothing but chain, premix gas, propane (and burner), two gallons of chain and bar oil and a new handle for the splitting maul.

I am going out to check the fire before we get six hours of rain:)

Boone is an hour away, we bought a jeep there back in March, let's hope you are able to come back to the area one day, we moved here last May due to my wife getting the job of her dreams, but didn't move into this place until November and the start of winter.

Here is a pic of the cabin the week we moved in, notice the snow...
