I am about to redo the small kitchen floor. 83 sq ft total not including refrigerator and cabinets. Taking out the vinyl flooring and putting in a floating laminate floor. I currently have no heat in this room. Heat comes form adjacent rooms. Here is my chance to install in floor radiant heating. I can lower the temperature in the adjacent rooms a tiny bit. What about electric mats that is buried under the wood floor? Would I go poor paying the electric bill? Installation seems easy. Running tubes from the boiler and circulation pump seems a lot more complicated, especially for one little room. Electric seems to make sense. Timer to have it on in the morning to warm the bare feet. Off when no one is home. Back on when the kids comes home from school. Off again when we go to sleep. Make sense? .

my mom did the electric floor heating in her kitchen and she says she loves it, and no the electric bill didn't go up--turning down the rest of the heat compinsates the $. she did it her self so it can't be that hard, although she used tile not laminate, so thats got to make it easier yet.

i have cork floors in my kitchen and love it...........although this wouldn't give you any heat, the diff between my hardwood and cork side by side on a cold day is night and day...............just some extra info..........
My sister's house has in floor raiant heat. The "FEELING" of cold has a lot of variabes. One thing I know, two room with the same air temperature, one with "regular" heat and the next with in floor radiant heat. The radiant heat feels a lot hotter. Hotter to a point so that the theromstat can be turned down a bit. The cooler air temperature makes my respiratory system less stuffy. The warmer feet makes me "FEEL" warmer.

Nuheat is a product I have worked with before.The tile setters laid the mat in the thin set mortar,but I have wired up many of them.They have a controller with the GFI and programmable t-stat all in one,simple to use and install.Every installation that I did,the customers were very happy with afterwards.Check with electrical supply or tile supply shops in your area,not sure if its available at the usual retail outlets.
