On the front page of www.snapon.com is a picture of the catalog; click on it and it will be added to your cart for $1.78 ... no dealer required and it will be shipped to your house ... :)

I just ask the truck guy for one every few years when I track him down and catch up with him somewhere. I don't mind shopping on the internet, but it just isn't the same as thumbing through a catalog. You discover alot of items you never knew existed that way. On the net you usually have to know what you are looking for, even when "browsing" an on-line catalog.

It is all in your mentality, and how you look at it!:) Or, you are just a thrifty old fart like me, :wtf: and take offense at the idea of paying people to supply a catalog so that I can spend money with them!:bounce: I think companies like Snap-On figure it this way, if they will pay that much for the tools, surely they will pay for the catalog of tool **** to drool over:bowdown: Soon the Victoria's Secret catalog with the girls in their barely there's will cost money too! :bounce:

I am not sure but I think it was Mac's was $11.98. So the $1.78 was enough to know you were serious for nice catalog.

Your consistent disdain for Snap-On never ceases to amuse me.

The catalog's free. Chase down a snap-on truck, and he'll hand you one. Or they'll charge you about $2 to ship one to you.

The horror.

Go break some Craftsman tools already. :)

harbor freight offers free catalogs also. THEY MUST BE GOOD. if not better than snapon. im a big fan of snapon but i prefer wright wrenches. they are more comfortable to use all day. i love craftsmans pro screwdrivers, ive tried the snapon and I believe the craftsman are almost as good but at ahuge price difference. nothing beats snapon ratchets

Now here is what gets me. Why should I have to chase down a guy trying to sell me hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of tools? Shouldn't he be chasing me down?

This business model is about 40 years old.

But the business model hasn't changed. Because it still works.

Don't forget, they're not selling to you. They're selling to me. The guy who wrenches for a living, and we love that we don't have to go tool shopping weekly. The store comes to us.

If you're not doing it professionally, you're going to have to go find the Mac/Cornwell/Matco/Snap-On guy if you want their tools.

It's not that hard. Call 'em up and find out what day they'll be in your area. Meet them on your lunch break... wait, that's inconvenient? Well now you know how I'd feel driving to Sears to warranty the stuff I break every week. I break it at work, I want a new one handed to me. At work. ;)

Or keep using Craftsman. They're okay, if you're not working on cars 40-50 hours a week. Nothing wrong with them. There are much better tools out there, but there are much worse ones around, too.

You'll never hear me say that everyone on this forum needs to own Snap-On tools. The recreational guys that have Snap-On tools bought thm because they're gross overkill. They probably could get by just fine with Craftsman or SK. Just don't try and tell us that the two are equal, because that's simply not true.

Octane, pass the popcorn.

But again you are going under the false assumption that as soon as your tool breaks, or you just need a different tool, that you are going to give the SnapOn guy a call on the cellphone and he is going to be right over, driving clear across town (at 9 miles a gallon) to sell you a SOCKET!

No, what is going to happen is that you are going to call the guy and he is going to tell you that he will catch up with you next week because his route is on the other side of town today and you are going to borrow that socket from your buddy in the bay next to yours.

I heard SNAP-ON tools were made in the same plant as HARBOR FREIGHT .

CRAFTSMAN tools are much better and have a better warranty.

"Sell?" That tool is free.

"False assumption?" Your basing this on... what... exactly?

If I break a socket, I've probably got a spare in that size until the tool guy comes back around. But I've had Matco and Snap-On stop by a couple of days early when I broke something expensive, or if I was the only guy in the shop with a particular specialty tool that just failed.

Someone's shoveling it hard and heavy in this thread. And it's not me.

What the hell happened to you, dude? Calm down.

Did your mother run off with a Snap-On guy?
Were you assaulted by the school bully with a Flank-Drive 19mm metric box wrench?

Of course they are. :D

You, I don't mind, since you're just poking fun. But this guy actually believes what he's typing.

*stir* *stir* *stir* ...

I hope the rest of you are enjoying this. I know I am. I just hope chicane doesn't have chronically high blood-pressure.

I am tired of the popcorn (needs more butter:bounce:) and this thread has deteriorated into stupidity! I am done with this thread! Fortunately it looks as though TNToy has not lost his sense of humor with the whole thing!

I think we need a whole new forum on the Garage Journal called Snap-On vs. Craftsman, or some such thing.

It's called sarcasm (see the little smiley).

I would thought you, of all the folks here, would know the difference.

Geez, you snap-on guys sure are sensitive.
