I just swapped the handles on mine but how rare these ratchets are it should not be an issue
if you're just going to use it, why the concern for value? One of mine had a couple of chunks out of it right where the web of my thumb would press so I just filed/sanded that section smooth. problem solved. I'd like to find a couple with wrecked handles (which would make it cheaper - people that spend big money on these generally want the unblemished factory handle with the model number clearly stamped into it) that I could swap on yellow and red handles for my sons' sets. Maybe I'll just end up making a dual 80 version for myself and put new handles on the 2 I have.I thought about doing the same thing as not to mess up the handle anymore, but if the indentations ruined it I was going to just use it the way it was. Thanks

You got a sweet deal at $30. Congrats! As for the blemishes hurting value, a NOS one would almost definitely go over the $200 mark on eBay. Ones with signs of use and small Knicks, as far as I've observed normally go for $100-125 or so. The only completed auction I can see on eBay shows one with a few Knicks that went for $119.
How do you think the 3 indentations in the handle affect the value?

Thanks, I strictly bought it because I liked the way it felt in my hand. I had no idea what it was until I read about on on GJ. And who can pass up a decent snap on ratchet for 30 bucks. I bought all the snap on tools in a big box someone pawned and never came back, got a couple used snap on 80 tooth ratchets with comfort grip handles for 30 each, a 48 piece rethreader kit that was new for 30 and 2 sets of 3/8 extensions still wrapped in plastic for 30 each. Oh yeah and a 32oz red plastic ball pien hammer for 25. I thought that was a really good day!
In a way, yes. But those ratchets are so rare people will still pay a lot of you sell it.
I think i have a new one, that i've never used.
Most definitely a really good day, those prices are unbeatable.
before I paid him and he told me he was making good money off them.
Thanks Moose, if you have a new one I bet that is worth a mint. How would you know to hold onto something like that and not use it when they first come put with them?

I didn't even barter with the guy, I pulled everything out of the toolbox I liked and took it to the counter and he said I had to buy box and all the tools and I kinda dared him to price it separately. I even asked him if he was sure before I paid him and he told me he was making good money off them.

I often wonder just how little the pawn shops give.
I'd guess these were replaced by the 3/8 in 1/4" body ratchets. I made a similar version out of the kobalt fine tooth, back when they were closed out. Handy size.

I didn't, i paid over the odds for it on eBay years ago.
Just never got around to using it. It's sat in the ratchet drawer for the last 8 or 9 years. It's either new or very good condition, i can't remember which.
At that price, throw the money at them and run!
Watched a tv thing on a chain of pawn shops here in the UK a while ago. It's outrageous what little they give for stuff, then the buy-back cost and mark up.
In a way, preying on vulnerable people and completely screwing them on getting their stuff back. I know it's a business, but damn. They have sales targets too, real cut-throat stuff.![]()
I think people who sell there need money immediately or they would make way more listing on Craigslist or some other local sight
