So, I'm looking for some advise on my Snap-On wrenches. I have a set of 3/8"-1" Snap-On wrenches from the late 70s that were my dads, They are badly worn and slip most of the time along with pitting on some of them and sanding marks on others, I contacted Snap-On about warrantying them and I'd have to send them in. Should I keep them do to the sentimental value or trade them in?

That depends, are they sentimental to you??? Do you have other stuff to remind you of him? I think trading them in for new wrenches makes more sense then leaving them sit on the bottom of your box. Now when you use the new ones you can thank your dad for buying the originals. With out those you wouldn't have the new set.

If they do mean something to you, I would keep one and make some sort of hanger or drawer handle out of it, get the rest warrantied and think of him when you turn the new wrenches.

If they're "worn" and "pitted" meaning rust in the contact surfaces being rubbed off over and over again causing the "wear". You probably wont get warranty. You certainly wouldn't if I was the guy making the choice.
You'd have to spin many a bolt on a good wrench set that was half taken care of to wear it to the point of "slipping". To do it to all the sizes in a set would be nearly impossible.
You're a junk man so they may well have more miles on them than imaginable.I have seen some slap wore out tools at a scrap yard. Especially air stuff, pry bars, torches, come-a longs etc.
Send them in. They may be amazed. OTOH they may tell you to fly a kite and take better care of your tools.

Do you need them for anything or do you have another set to use?

I have a lot of my grandpas tools and I've decided to keep them for sentimental reasons even if/when they break. I can buy new tools but they won't be his.

If they are still usable keep them. If they are shot think what your dad would say. I went through a similar thing and I though of what my Dad would say! He would say get new ones son and take em to the cleaners! Joking aside I am sure he would want you to have usable tools. I will upload some pics of my dads older tools. I warrantied some of them but I kept an SR-71 ratchet for sentimental reasons. It is still useable but I dont want to wreck it.

Dad's tools are only one set. And you have them.

New user wrench sets are thick on the ground and should work better but those were never dad's.

If you have the means or another set of wrenches less worn put those in service, set aside the worn ones and know who fed you using them for so long.

If you just gotta have new stuff its an easy choice IF the folks in Kenosha agree you can have them. Many times worn out is just that and not a manufacturing defect.
I cannot trade in a '78 Pinto on a new model after running it to death. Not for even up or even the 20 bucks its worth.

Someone with a copy of the SO warranty will chime in soon after this post. Bank on it.

But if the vote were mine dads tools would be wallhangers just out of reach as I used some better condition stuff.
SAE sells cheap now. It should be no challenge to duplicate the old set in the box.
