Snap on YA2636 battery tester

Picked one of these up for a good deal and since I have several old tractors bikes etc that sit for a while figured it was a good tool to have.

The unit did not come with any kind of instructions so kinda in the dark with what it can actually do...

Reading a few thread of reviews it appears some models get hot when you put a load on the battery, not sure if this works in a similar way. Also do I have to charge the battery first to get an accurate percentage of battery life or can I just hook it up add a load and get a good reading?

We have similar Snap-On unit (wireless). Its basically a load-tester... tells you if the battery is good and what the measured capacity is. It isn't a carbon-pile tester, instead uses conductance so it shouldn't get hot.

With any battery testing I recommend it be charged for accurate results.

It uses conductance to test a battery's ability to hold a charge similar to a midtronics tester or other electronic hand held battery tester.

I'm not a fan of the short test leads but, the back being magnetic allows it to be stuck on the side of a tool box for easy access.

Once it's attached to the battery, just follow the onscreen prompts like CCA, in or out of car, etc.

that helps out guys thanks....is there a unit that exists say if you have several batteries in whatever and they have been sitting a while and you just want to test it before trying to charge it back to life?

Example: my grandpa has a small cat dozer and it's a pain to remove the heavy batteries to charge them and find out they are no good anymore
