SO and SJO cable

Is it ever ok to use as a permanent installation. I have seen factories come out of a j box and down jack chain to lights with so cable.

Is there a reason for a homeowner to use SO over SJO. I know the J means junior (300volt).

I saved $10 by buying SJO.
Was going to use a very short section for a 4000watt ceiling heater but see that the package for wire shows non permanent only. I need a disconnect or plug due to the distance from breaker box. If I can't use the SJO. Is hard wiring my only choice?

Downstream of the disconnect IS non permanent. You're fine there.

If you've only got 120V or 240V, the J is fine, though SO has a thicker jacket. You shouldn't be subjecting the cord to damage anyway, so either is fine.

Just make sure you derate the circuit for constant heating use.

"Officially" SJO insulation is rated for 300V; SO 600V.

Flexible cord cannot be used in place of perm. wiring, either use a plug on one end or better yet sealtite.
