So I need a new 4 1/2" Grinder

Hey everyone I just burned up one of my dw402 grinders (beyond repair) and was wondering what all of you might have for suggestions for replacement. That grinder lasted through working pipeline and misc fab jobs for almost 15 years with just one cord replacement and a set of brushes. I have my eye on a d28115 but was wondering what other people are using. These days just doing small fab jobs and generally would like to have an angle grinder that would last like one of the first ones I ever bought did. Thanks for any and all input!

I buy Metabo grinders. I believe they make the best grinders money can buy. If I couldn't get that, I'd get a Fein. If I couldn't get that, Makita. Hitachi-koki and Bosch are ok, but I've only ever used old ones. They may be **** now.

I wouldn't get Dewalt, Milwaukee, Porter Cable or any of the house brands. I'm very disappointed in Milwaukee especially. They used to be so good. Then they sold to a big company who gutted them and uses the name to sell ****.

These days, I'd get several Harbor Freight grinders-cheap, they replace them with no problem, and you can have a few of them with different wheels on them.

Metabo, they beat everything else so bad it not even funny. I used to burn a 4.5 every other year, dewalt/Milwaukee, didn't matter. The metabo is 6+ years now. The toolless wheel change is awesome and the ergonomics are very good.

Bosch is also pretty nice, but make sure it's the German-made version.

The shop I work at switched to Metabo grinders from Milwaukee about 5 years ago. Repairs dropped by about 80% and only one out of about 40 has had to be replaced. We use the German made Metabos, I have no experience with the Chinese ones.

I'll go out on a limb here and recommend a Makita SJSII GA4542C. I've had mine close to two years now and it's done everything I've asked of it, while being super smooth to operate (no numb hands after 10 minutes of grinding). The variable speed is really useful for someone like me who uses it on various different kinds of metal and wood. I can clamp it up in a vise and put a sanding disc on it to smooth up and polish objects as well.

I like the Bosch with the slide switch on the left side. Everybody has their preferences.

I have two of the 5" dewalts. They get some pretty serious work and are at least 10 yrs. old. I would have no problem getting them again. I also got the Milwaukee 18v Fuel as a free tool when I bought my drill kit. I have used the Milwaukee some mostly for cutting so far. It is nice in some ways as it runs at a little slower rpm. Also very nice not to have a cord.
