I've also got a Weber Genesis, I love it, it always starts and works great, for charcoal or smoking I also have a New Braunfels smoker, for slow cooked meats.

I bought a Charmglow from Home Debit a few years ago and can't wait to throw it out this spring. I have never experienced such uneven heating in my life.

All I want now is just a decent Weber....nothing fancy, no side burner.

That sounds like a great deal on the weber. I just checked Home Despot and can't seem to find the $399 price on that unit. Is it only in the store?

Wow sorry guys, I thought that was for all HD. It's the same price in all my stores(23 in my territory). But their customer service is outstanding. I'm waiting to get a good deal on a weber genesis, don't care if its the black or the stainless.

For the last 25 years, I'd have to replace my gas grill about every 4-5 years as well.
I finally got a built in natural gas "Turbo" from BBQ Galore. Had it for about 6 years and have only had to replace a knob or two.

The gas grill gets a daily work out. I have a few smokers for real Q.

Sorry to say another WEBER follower here too, a gas unit (Genesis Silver C model) we bought back in the 90's! And it works great today, of course I look at the newer ones and think wow, these are made cheaply...:shocking:

Lately been considering a smoker too and heard wonderful things about a smoker called an Orion cooker

If $ were no object, a green egg would be on my patio too

I am looking at one of the green eggs. They are supposed to be awsome.

No problem

I figured with mine, even if the quality isn't the greatest and it last a few years I'd be happy. For about $10 a year I'm not gonna complain.

There seems to be alot of Weber fans on here. I looking at a S-310 Genesis but would like to secure it permanently to the patio. Has anyone ever done this with a Weber? I'ld probably run into a clearance issue with the lower doors unless I mounted it up on a base. The gas grill I had at our previous home was bolted down with the gas line running up through the pedastal which made for a clean install.

Sorry, I've never bolted mine down. I need to roll mine away from the rails as they are pvc, I don't want them to melt. I'm sure that you can make some kind of mount since it will be hard piped to the gas line. Good luck with it.

My vote goes for Weber, my genesis is almost 10 year old, never replaced burners yet and I live on a salt water canal. Go with the porcelain..it lasts a long time. 3 burners for better control.

The difference (speaking of gas, I don't know much about charcoal grills) is I think because the weber 'pit' is aluminum, so it doesn't rust and burn thru..that part is pretty much a lifetime piece, quality of stainless in the burners, porcelain lids. The weber stainless grills though have changed recently though, from what i've read the grade of stainless has been downgraded and the lower end spirit units are now offshored to china or one of those places =(

Then you have the normal stuff like cast iron grate or not (cast iron well worth it).

I think I paid $350 for the genesis close to 9 or so years ago so I think i've gotten my moneys worth out of it compared to when i used to replace them every few years. I have replaced ignitor of course, upgraded to cast iron grate, but still going strong.

If you're strapped, pickup one off CL if you find one at decent price, spend about 100$ replacing burners and get a cast iron grate, cast iron grate is a must!

I just got a Weber Genesis late this summer. I looked around and tried to find a deal on one and ended up getting fairly educated on them. Weber makes a couple different versions. One they sell to the big box stores and one that they sell to everyone else. The big box store version is cheapened up so they can sell at a lower price point. They come with cast grates and ceramic coated flavor bars. These retail at $699 at HD and Lowes for the E310. My local Ace Hardware had them and I didn't understand the price difference. They were $799 and come with heavy stainless grates and stainless flavor bars. My local Ace Hardware was giving out a $100 gift card with the purchase of a Genesis late in the summer. It wasn't the color I wanted so I was able to get them to throw in a Weber cover for it as well. So I did pay full retail but was able to get a free cover and a gift card. I turned around and bought a Dewalt cordless drill with the gift card on Black Friday. I think I made out.

I replaced a "perfect flame" grill that a bought from Lowes 6 years ago. While it looked good mechanically it was junk. I replaced the burners every other year and a couple every year. At $15 each I was willing to do that. After awhile though that got really old and I hear lots of stories, just like the ones on here, of everyones Weber grills lasting 10-20 years with very minimal maintenance.

My wife got me a Weber charcoal grill for father's day this year and I love it. Other than the cover blowing away this fall it has been great. You could say I am "Weberized" and that's ok with me.

If you are talking about what I think you are talking about, start with setting the gap the same as your old one, watch the flame and try to get as blue as possible.

I think that's what your asking??

I just bought my very first brand new Weber Gas Grill at Home Depot two days ago. It was a dusty display model with all parts complete. We paid $299 for a 3 burner + side burner Weber S-320. I couldn't be happier! Check you local Home Depot if they have any display units on clearance, if they do they're usually heavily discounted.

A Broil King is great bang for the buck. Lifetime warranty on the casting . 5yrs on the burners and 2 years on everything else. I have always tried to have a grill that is at least 100 Btu's per square inch. A 400 sq inch grill should equal at least 40,000 Btu's.... Speaking of warranties, their only as good as the company around long enough to honor them. Buying from a reputable store that handles the warranty issues and carries any replacement parts is worth paying a little more than what the box stores offer.

What about the "Spirit" line sold at HD?

Sorry. I meant to say Spirit not Summit. The Spirit are imports and as you move up the price spectrum form that line they are domestic. To get a US made one you need to step up to a Genisis. The Summit is the next step above the Genisis. I don't think the Spirit is a bad grill but you have to bite the bullet on price to get a domestic built grill.

I bought a saffire during the holidays, and I can't say enough about it. I wish I had been familiar with kamado style grilling years ago. Will not go back to a gas grill.
You can cook at 200 for 12 hours on this for a slow cook or cook at over 700 to do your steaks year round. Just awesome.

I bought a BGE but the feature I like about the Saffire is the chip chute.

I have a Charbroil "professional" series 4 burner from Lowes. My ex g/f got me for my birthday about 5.5 years ago for around $299. It's held up well over the years. It could use some new grates as the ceramic coating is starting to chip off some of them from the heat cycles over the years. I have left it uncovered for the last 3 years since the original cover ripped and it's held up surprisingly well. There is some rust inside the cabinet on the parts that aren't stainless but the stainless is in good shape. It also needs a new ignitor, however I have yet to see any gas grill ignitor that lasts more than a couple years anyways. I just use one of those long lighters to light it now, not that big of a deal. I could buy a new ignitor for $20 but it really isn't much of a priority.

When I want to use charcoal or smoke stuff I have a cheapy brinkman bullet smoker I bought for $40 at HD. It works well for smoking. I recently "converted" it to propane using my turkey fryer burner. I smoked a 9.5lb boston **** 2 weeks ago for 12 hours and using the propane burner, it kept it at 220 degrees for 12 hours with very little adjustment. I won't be going back to using charcoal for smoking anymore. I still use the wood chunks in the charcoal/wood pan to get the smoke and it still has great smoke flavor, I just use propane for a heat source now. Sorry but having to tend to the charcoal every 15-30 minutes to regulate the heat is for the birds.

Here's my setup

I have 4 grills, well 3 1/2 really. I have a traeger pellet stove, its not very good for grilling but great at smoking so it counts as "half a grill". A good old Weber kettle and what we locally call a Santa Maria BBQ, basically a wood burning fire pit, the fire pit with real wood gets the most use, 2-3 times a week, the weber maybe once a month, the traeger also maybe once a month.

We do have a gas grill, its super expensive and will last my lifetime, if you want real quality look into Lynx Grills, super heavy duty, heavy cast brass burners, it will last several lifetimes (and costs like it, it was over $3k for the 27" model), we use it to do rotisseries and quick burgers once in a while. I still prefer the real wood BBQ over them all.
