Hex nuts (and hex headed bolts) weren't commonly used until the mid 1930s

Well, the U.K. was using hex headed bolts in the early 1800's, and they were certainly standard by about 1820/1830, years before the actual sizes were standardised!

I have no doubt that some industries hung on to square nuts longer than others, and the agricultural sector was certainly one of them, but the hex nut MUST have made it as far as Nebraska before the 1930's!

Mustn't it....?

Marty: another nice tool for your collection that is for sure. I've got a few of those i think somewhere so i'll have to look for them. i know I've got a lot of square sockets and can't remember which brand they are now.

what is the name on yours because i can't quite read it with my old eyes?

Had an almost new one a while back, they're used by the power co. All their stuff they put up on the poles have square heads.
