stapler problems

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the proper place to be asking this but I'm running out of ideas. I'm a TA and unfortunately my professor has decided that my one true calling in life is to fix his staplers. He has a 747 swingline stapler that swings open loosely, and gets jammed with every kind of staple I've bought (even the premium SF. 4 staples) . If anyone can simply tell me just how to take this thing apart and then put it back together I'd be very appreciative. I am considering just buying a new one and replacing it like a child with a beloved pet fish, considering he has grown so attached to the stapler he now calls it Cherry. Please and thank you.

I've come to the conclusion that some staplers are just dicks. Those get thrown in the trash without me wasting any more life trying to get them to not be dicks. Simple as that.

Is it red by any chance?

why yes, of course..
Ok, so that answers my question. At the time of the making of "Office Space", Swingline had not ever made red 747 staplers. Stephen Root's infamous red stapler was a custom painted prop. By popular demand, Swingline started to sell red staplers due after the movie, but by that time the 747 was being imported from China, and so the red models are all pretty much disposable. If you had an older 747 made in Long Island City (probably black, battleship grey or tan), it might be worth repairing, but the newer imports (even the 747 top of the line cast zinc and not plastic trash model) don't last nearly as long or stand up to the same levels of abuse as the original all steel models. I have an antique model 4 on my desk that'll staple rings around an import.

I have tried several times to repair tackers which were acting up. Once, I made one a little better, but honestly I was never able to "fix" a tacker. The staple has to go down a slot only big enough for one staple, and it has to be hit just right by the "hammer" piece. Any significant wear, and the thing jams. There is nothing to shim or adjust. Cherry is probably toast.

Poor Cherry, I made a little name tag for her and everything when we first got her. I've already ordered a new one, hopefully he won't even notice.
