After months of saving and waiting, I just ordered a Sterling 45,000 BTU garage guy heater.

I am planning on installing it myself to save money, and getting the gas people here to inspect it. I called the gas company, and in Ontario, you are allowed to work on your own gas lines, and install a heating system and gas supply piping yourself. They will inspect my work for free as a courtesy including the flue/venting and all piping.

I am very interested in the concentric venting option that is available with it for ultimate safety. The instructions stated that the size of the vent is 4 inch venting requirements.

A few questions about venting & concentric venting:

1) Is the concentric vent kit specific to the manufacturer of the heating system, or can I order a 4 inch concentric vent box from anywhere?

2) Are there any issues with connecting stainless pipe to my heater, which I assume has an aluminum flue connector?

3) The 4 inch venting requirements..... will I be using an approximately 5 inch outside diameter pipe?

4) What are the clearances to combustibles like insulation & wood framing for my venting setup.

5) The concentric venting box. Should it go up inside my attic, or inside the garage area? Does it matter?

6) The instructions I see on the net regarding my model make little mention of clearances up out of and to the sides of the roof..... is there any general clearances I should know about? Or should I wait for the unit and hopefully more detailed instructions in it?

7) Is a flex connector allowed for the final gas supply connection from the shutoff closest to the unit and the unit.

Thanks for any help!

Ryan
