Stocking the Garage

Here's a handy list that I have compiled over the years. I live on the outskits of town and nothing slows down a weekend mission in the garage than the need to go into town and get "something" you need to finish the job. This quick trip to town is compounded with a "while you are out, pick up . . ." request from SWMBO. My quick trip is slowed by this request which invariably entails a stop at 2 additional stores.

So, I figure if my garage is properly stocked in the first place, that'll minimize MY trips for "things" which in turn reduces the SWMBO honey-do's.

With no further ado:

In the GARAGE
.....Fire Extinguisher(s)
.....First Aid Kit
.....Beer
....."Mouse-Proof" rodent killing pellets
.....Bag of kitty litter for spills

BEAUTY PRODUCTS
.....Clay bar

.....Gliptone leather conditioner
.....Kirk's Castile Soap leather cleaner
.....EFFAX Leather Balsam -- contains Lanolin, Avocodo Oil and Beeswax
.....Vinylex, the Lexol brand protectant. It's non-silicone, I believe, and has UV protection too. Good for vinyl interior parts, too.

WORKING on the Car

.....3-1 oil
.....Silicon Spray
.....Anti-seize compound
.....Loctite
..........Loctite 242 (red) (reasonably easy to remove)

.....Wire of various colors and sizes
..........Old wiring harnesses
.....Electrical Connectors (male connectors, the female single and double sleeves)
.....Fuses
.....Masking Tape
.....Duct Tape
.....Electric Tape
.....Contact Cement
.....3M Weather-strip Adhesive
.....General Purpose Adhesive Solvent Part #: 051135-08984
.....3M Adhesive Remover (is about 99% Naptha, available at tobacconists) (Ronson lighter fluid works just as well)
.....PB Blaster
.....Kroil -- a great penetrating oil. {Better than PB Blaster some say}
.....Knock’er Loose (from MAC’s at NAPA)

OK -- what did I miss? Or -- what are your comments on specifics on my list? In some cases I was brand-specific -- any thoughts?

I find having a spare set of rings just hanging around kinda funny. It seems like it's at the far end of the do it yourself spectrum when you consider having an exhaust sealer at the other.

Great list...covers 90% of the stuff I already have. I didn't see rattle can Rustoleum spray paint in black and silver...I tend to use those quite a bit after a small welding project etc.

BTW, anyone has an idea of where to shop online for all these items ? I've been looking for a one stop shop with no luck.

All kiddin aside, it is a good supply list, I think I am going to take it to the garage and see what I am missing. I'll bring the Mrs to the garage and ........... that will be counted as the Knock'er loose!

I think he said O-rings, like little rubber things. I think you're thinking piston rings. That would be quite a different matter.

Your Loctite colors are reversed. Loctite 242 is blue (medium strength). Loctite 262 is red (high strength; requires heat to remove).

You should also add: windshield washer fluid and air filters.

O.K., O.K. I read it wrong but it really did give me a chuckle the way I interpreted it.

Thanx for filling all the missing gaps -- a special thanx to Byrdman for the additional items. I have most of them on hand; just forgot to add them to my list. That's fixed now.

Also a BIG thanx to Roadster for correcting my Loctite listing. I should know better at my age not to rely on memory. :headscrat

And while I do NOT have spare Piston Rings in MY garage, I do have lots of gaskets and seals from various engine rebuilds over the years -- some still in their origianl wrapper. Also have an extra flywheel ring gear (for a 71 or 72 V12 Jaguar -- try and find THAT at NAPA). :wtf:

Thanx again to all who contributed
