Straight Cut with Greenfield - Tips and Tricks ?

Don't work much with flex.
Struggled today getting straight cuts . Hacksaw, Aviation Snips, etc.
I Then remembered I had a Seatek Flex Cutter in my stash. Used that tool and then took a Aviation snip to clean up the edge profile.


On the greenfield, the sheath unwounds both ways. On one end, it's from the outside in. The latter is from inside, out. The closest cut I got without using the Seaktek was snipping on the end where the flex undoes from the outside in.


Granted, many will just cut, snip, snap, throw a bushing on and call it a day.
I've been taught on any metal flex, the cut needs to be 90 square...

I have cut more flex than i care to remember and i never once worried about it. It is a futile effort

I got to agree. Greenfield especially and I can do it so its smooth and no bur, square doesn't matter. Break it with my hand and 2 snips.

Ha Kia. Cutting greenfield with a portaband is like trying to have s3x on a Friday after a long day of drinking. I tried that. It was flipping and flopping.....

Rockwith-Sberry. I'm sure you know what I mean when I reference a straight cut. When you look at it , half the cut if on the outer shell and the other half is on the ~inner~ shell of the flex.

Granted any cut, bushing, connector can be easily made.....I was taught all cuts need to be straight.

It doesn't have to be perfectly straight on the small stuff. 1/2, 3/4, 1" it doesn't matter. Bigger than that I use the cordless portaband.

I snip it with dykes to get the flex rough cut to length, then I'll take another snip off the end to get it as square as possible but it'll still have some angle to it when I'm finished.
