I occasionally need to put a poly strap around shipping boxes or something like a bunch of rods or pipes for easier storage What strapping tool can you recommend based on your experience? Where do you buy strapping tape? Any preference on the brand, size, material?

P.S. I assume that metal straps require a different tool, correct?

Uline has strapping. we use the poly with metal clips . no tools really required . there is a T handle that's supposed to help pull the strapping taught but we just pull it by hand

Oooh... that's a new one for me...
I've got documents on the "steel banding straps" from companies like Signode, and other, but I was not yet aware there was a "poly" strapping equivalent. I guess I'm just not paying close enough attention.
Throw a couple brand names at me please. I very seriously doubt "uline" is making anything at all, other than money.
Thank you.

For what the OP want poly strap will probably do the job with the only maybe being strapping pipe or tube as you really got get the strapping tight to keep it all together.

If anybody else has ever watched Cutting Edge Engineering on YouTube Curtis has what appears to be a Milwaukee M18 battery powered strapping machine which I've never seen in the USA. It pulls the strapping tight, melts it together and then cuts it off. I've always said to myself: "**** that's a neat machine." Has anybody here ever seen such a thing?

More than one manufacturer of strapping machines made cordless versions, that used battery systems from major power tool manufacturers.
It looks like Orgapack and Signode may be making tools that use the Bosch Ampshare system.
I think there were tools, at least in the oast, that used Dewalt batteries, and maybe Milwaukee, Makita, and Metabo batteries as well.

Admittedly, I havent watched CEE in several months, but I used to. I remember thinking wow, that's a neat tool and I could probably find a use for it. The one he used at the time was made by a company I never heard of and was over $3000.

Uline is still selling battery packs for older strapping tools, I think to a Bosch battery design, that Was discontinued 20 or more years ago.
