I was looking for a bigger box to put all the Toptul stuff I was ordering in and noticed that www.strictlytoolboxes.com was a sponsor here, so checked out the site and found the 41" Extreme Tools combo for $995. I PM'd Shannon about maybe a GJ.com discount and he said absolutely! We arranged for me to come pick it up this past saturday morning; he even offered to let me pick it up from his house instead of the warehouse, which would have added another hour and 15 minutes to my drive.

Well, I got up at 345 (AM!) and got to his house about 7, before we started to load it up he offered me a free 3 ton jack and jack stands....thats right, free. I was actually going to buy one almost exactly like it in the next few days. It couldn't have been better timing for me to get a free jack. So, after less than ten minutes we had it loaded up and I was on the road again, an EXTREMEly satisfied customer.

Got home and got it set up and started transferring my tools from my old little box and around the shop in to load it up. The drawers are pretty smooth, and definitely solid. The black finish pretty slick, as you can tell from the pics and my reflection. It rolls around pretty nicely. All in all, I couldn't have asked more out of a box for this price and the way Shannon handled it all was really outstanding.

Wanting to buy new bigger storage myself.

I'm NOT a fan of any deep/large drawers, versus more shallow drawers for more sq inches. I do understand the mfg has to make a decision on what features appeal to the most buyers. I'm in residential/private situation and dont need to lock up every thing I own.

Anyway, I keep reading ALL the tool box posts and am trying to decide, trying to draw conclusion.

BTW, My cramped two car garage, just wont a allow the LONG 72" roller. I need to stick with a 56" (or shorter) COMBO.........

I also want "Tool Truck" quality and similar weight.

I looked at your pictures on the other site and read the thread. The picture of the damaged shipping box, is that where the damage was on the toolbox, or was there more damage to the toolbox that wasn't seen until you unpacked it? Did you unpack it and look at it and decided it was worth sending back? Just wondering, I'm about to order a 56" Extreme Blue and just want to understand if I need to unpack it even though there appears to be no damage to the shipping box.

In the pictures, the damage to the cardboard box (the picture is of the back) was where the damage to the tool box occurred, I think there was also one area of damage on one side of the box. The damage to the cardboard box doesn't look very significant, but I think the "forks" of a fork lift probably pierced the cardboard, so there was a lot of force on a small area, the damage to the toolbox was fairly significant. However the frame of the toolbox is on the interior and was not damaged at all, and all the drawers operate perfectly without any binding. In the end, I have cosmetic damage. If I wasn't in such a hurry, I should have refused the shipment. Had the damage occurred to the front of the box, the drawers would have been damaged, which would be a real problem.

The shipping box/packing was fairly good, and as long as it is handled with common sense, it should be OK. I would consider unpacking it before signing for it, if there is any sign of damage to the cardboard.

Just received the 56" Extreme Tool Chest. Shannon was great to deal with and took care of me. I added the pics of the box unpacked. I just got a large order of Toptul's who want a new home I also installed my MaxJax Lift today. The last 2 days have been like Christmas

I will, but if the criticism for the casters is the worst thing he can come up with, I be good with that. Once I park it in my garage, won't be moving it a whole lot till I build my 30x50x14 steel Barn in the next year

As far as the review on the box. Well to start this box is very heavy, both top and bottom. Once we got the top box off and I pulled off all the cardboard and Styrofoam of the roller chest, inspected the chest and not a scratch, I looked over the top box last night and again, perfect. Locked the drawers on both boxes and gently laid the chest on it's back and bolted on the casters. The caster are fine, they roll nice, they lock and have grease fittings, not sure what else to say about them. All drawers slide smooth and are far superior of any big box store combo set.

I have friends that have Snap On, Mac Tool, Cornwell and those boxes have nothing on this box. When those friends see this box, they are going to S**T their pants because they paid 3-4 times as much. If you want a Snap On or Mac Tool Box because of status, then don't get this one. If you want a box that is every bit the quality at 1/4 the price, then Extreme Tools Combo is the clear winner. IMO, the best bang for the buck box on the market and I am very critical. Also, I bet you do get better casters on Snap On boxes and I'm sure there worth every penny

I was just gonna say that with the boxes that have the rigid caster in the middle, I'd move that to one of the ends and have the swivel in the middle; that would make it easier to move the box up against a wall if that's the intended destination.

The way they come configured with the rigid caster in the middle and with the swivels at each end makes the box highly maneuverable over long distances; as long as you don't try to park it up against a wall. My 2 cents.

Yes, you are correct. I immediately realized it trying to parking it against the wall but at that point it was filled with my new tools. I will lift it on the lift to change out the casters.

I haven't yet found an on-topic thread, and my question may be a bit off topic for this thread I'm reviving, but does anyone on GJ have one of these "portable workstation" top chests like this Extreme Tools chest?

I have a sears catalog I was thumbing through this morning and came across it and was intrigued by the concept, but was wondering what it was like in real day-to-day use and whether there were any disadvantages?

Those are some nice boxes from Extreme. I'll have to upgrade my 41" Viper I just got not too long ago :/
