I really do not see the point of the striking cap. On a prybar yes but a screwdriver no. I like the bolster to add a wrench but I do not see the need to strike a screwdriver unless you are trying to drive it somewhere to pry somthing apart. Just my 2 cents worth.

screwdrivers are not made to be used as a prybar chisel or punch ( that comes from selling snap on screwdrivers for too many years)

:+1: I can see the benefit of them, but it shouldn't be a determining factor when buying a new set of screwdrivers.

IMO, I'd only get a flat head with a striking cap...but I'd dedicate that as a small, handy pry bar; not as a screwdriver.

If you already have all the general assortment of screwdrivers, then I'd think about purchasing a few select ones, but I'd only opt to strike the cap in the event that I can't gain access to/or don't have space to operate an impact screwdriver.

But....I actually have a pair of P2, and P3 Swiss Grips with striking caps just cuz they are pretty. :p :D

I dont really have any good screwdrivers right now, I have a drawer full of them but they are all kinda junk. At work I use the wiha electritions screwdrivers and they seem to fit better than my snap on. Also at work several times there were screws that were kinda stripped so I hit the back of the screwdrivers with a hammer to free up the screw and get a better grip on it. I want to buy a good set of drivers that will last the rest of my lifetime and that will fit the bill for anything I need it for. Am I going about this the wrong way? I know that on occation im going to smack my screwdrivers with a hammer, do you think I should just save some money and get the non striking caps?

The striking cap on the Wihas adversely affects the balance of the screwdriver making it very **** heavy. There is no noticeable balance change in the Weras. This is just my opinion, your results may vary. I have both styles and prefer the Weras. Felo also makes a decent version as does Witte.
As for those tool purists that have never hit a screwdriver with a hammer,:fawk:
However, I would recommend these beefed up prybars for when you need to beat on something the size of a screwdriver but, that's made to take the pounding. You can get them in 7, 12, or 15 inch blades I think.

I have the 12 inch blade model and it's very handy.

i can actually see some benifit to a striking cap... not to blatently beat on them, but might help to jar rusted fasteners lose prior to aplying rotational torque.... not saying it would actually work, but the theory sounds ok... lol

It does work.Up here in the rusty north it's pretty common to put the driver in the screw and give it a few whacks with the hammer to break the rust free and get the screw to turn.I smack my Snappy screwdrivers all the time.As I've gotten older I've switched from hitting them with a ball pein to using a dead blow or plastic faced hammer.Got to take care of those hard handles now, there getting expensive.:lol_hitti

like already mentioned, to free rusted screws. Yes it works.

Hex blade screwdrivers are also nice as a small pry bar. I always recommend a set of workshop screwdrivers with hex blade and bolster and striking cap to f____ them up plus a regular set of screwdrivers.

Putting a striking cap on a screwdriver is like giving a teen a condom. You know it's going to happen; better to have protection when it does.
