Stringer boards across garage ceiling joists for screen roller

Getting ready to install a golf retractable impact screen roller in my garage. I have four ceiling joists that run the length of the garage, and I plan on installing the screen perpendicular to the joists between my garage door rail tracks. The garage door rails are 183" apart, and the farthest ceiling joists are 147" apart, approx 50" between each joist. The roller will be 186" in length, with the screen being 180" wide on the roller in between the rails. I was planning on installing two 2x6's perpendicular to the joists so that there is overhang from the boards that the roller can attach to, since the joists don't go out as wide. I was going to attach angle brackets to further secure the stringer boards to the joists. Is this enough to hold the screen and roller? Total combined weight is approximately 30 lbs, but will also have golf balls hit into the screen so want to make sure everything is sturdy.

Side note, I plan on mounting a projector into the plywood in the center of the garage, is drilling thru then nuts and bolts to secure thru plywood adequate for a ~8 lb projector?

I believe I follow what you're describing, and I'd say that for the very light weights we're talking about here, your plan is more than adequate.

I think your plan is Overkill. Unless you need to be able to move it left and right, even a 2x4 attached to the 3 above the screen is plenty. How does it attach? If it something like a strap that goes around something, I would consider a piece of EMT or even PVC pipe that can be suspended from the ends leaving the whole middle open so the screen can be slid back and forth, again assuming that you might want to move it.

The EMT sounds like a winner to me; add a shower curtain rings and you should have a simple solution

The screen roller is supposed to attach to an overhead structure with some simple screws, my basic markup on the picture didn't include the mounting lol, see here:

I'm thinking 30-40lbs with the screen added. But sounds like my mounting solution will work out, which is good haha. Is GRK 4" structural screws sufficient to attach the 2x6s to the ceiling joists?

So I had posted this on reddit as well and it turns out that what I thought were ceiling joists are actually rafter ties? Them spanning the length of a ~20 foot garage may make them not suitable to hang my thing from? Not sure what is what now.

Correct, but again, the weight we're talking about here isn't going to impart any notable strain. I wouldn't use them for storage, but a 30lb screen and a 8lb projector is nothing.
