Strong exterior box needed

Noticed yesterday that the surface mounted electrical box holding one of my metal halide floodlights had split at the seam?

The lights are made by Hubbell and are a bit on the heavy side -- standard threaded pipe joint attachment ...... used a round hubbell box with two "ears" for screwing to the wall -- then a round Hubbell cover with the treaded hole for the light.

Is there another way to attach a heavy light like this? Have 4 of them so the others could be going.

I'm not sure the specific brand; but I recently installed some round outdoor boxes from HD and I dont even recall there being a seam anywhere on the box. I really wasn't paying much attention to that though so I could be wrong.

Have a photo of what you're dealing with?

Use a "fan-rated' box, UL rated for 70 lbs.

I don't have a picture.

Just to be clear. This is an exterior light attached to round surface mounted exterior box.

The box is cast aluminum with a matching cover ..... it split along one of the edges .. not really a seam.

I'm thinking that someone makes a stronger way of doing this

It won't be cheap, but it will last forever.

So I see the cast iron boxes ... but I only see one type with any screws and it does not say anything about using them outside.

They do look like they are what I need.

yes its a type "FS" box with threaded hubs. Crouse Hinds makes a good one as well as Appleton
They are actually malleable
