Subpanel and conduit size question

I'm placing a sub panel about 3' from my main panel. Following the good advice I received in this forum, I've decided to install a sub panel that is able to handle a 200 amp load in case I decide to upgrade the 100 amp main panel in the future.

I want 60 amps to go to the sub panel. I believe that I need three 6 gauge copper wires and one 10 gauge wire for the neutral. That could be carried in 3/4" metal conduit.

In anticipation of someday making the sub panel the main and running 100 amps back to it, I believe that I need to install 1" metal conduit to carry the copper 3-3-3-8 back to it in the future.

Am I on the right track? Should I use larger conduit for the future switch over?

1" is at max capacity with the 3-3-3-8, but meets the 40% fill requirement. You can go up to 1-1/4" for a minimal cost increase if you desire. I just ran 1" for a 100A sub panel about 70'ft away.

If it's only three feet away from the other panel, you may as well use the biggest piece of conduit that will fit - any additional cost will be pretty minimal.

You should make sure the subpanel is rated for use as service equipment if you plan on making it a main service panel some day.

And have a main cb for a clean conversion to main panel.

Plus 1 for Stuart. Biggest is Bestest especially with only a 3 foot run as a cost factor.
