Hi All,
I've been browsing for a while as I contemplate how to finish out my garage build but this is my first post. My wife and I bought our house in December 2017 and renovated it before moving in mid-2018. It has been great for us, but one thing I consistently regretted was the 1.5-car (16x24) garage. It was built in 1995 and was in great shape apart from the siding and soffits which were beginning to deteriorate.
After consulting with a few GCs, I settled on one and we signed a contract to demo the old structure and add on to the width of the existing foundation. The plan was to do 34x24 with one 16x8 and one 9x8 door. The day foundation prep began, I came to my senses and we changed the plan to a 40x24 4-car with two 16x8 doors. I also went with scissor trusses with 4/12 pitch lower chord so I have 13'+ clearance at the peak and about 11' for any vehicle I might put on my lift.
That may not be huge by GJ.com standards, but our lot is only 50ft wide so this is as wide as we could go without variances. The garage is set back ~20ft off the alley and there is now only ~12ft of space between the garage and house. With those constraints, I've already seen plenty of funny looks from neighbors as the build has progressed.
As of this post, the garage is framed and roofed. I'll share future progress below as I plan to finish the interior myself with some help along the way. Thanks for the resources here and any advice you may have to offer!
