Tell her to get over it. It is the right way. I did it and never had an issue with load in either house or garage and our garage has a 5hp compressor, 4 ton AC 10K lift and a ton of other smaller loads.

I told the wife Glenn had a stern message and she is now entertaining pulling power from the house 
. Electrician coming back soon to quote that. It's starting to look like i will need to push it to spring, we'll see.
In the meanwhile, I got my project car (74 450 SL that needs some work) got moved to the property and it will spend the winter tucked in in the pole barn.
Also testing a solar setup to have this guy spend the winter in the pole barn with a battery tender.
