small 234 unit is ALIVE AND WELL

got the little guy done and running today .

0psi in a 60 gal tank . then stops filling @ 140psi time is 8:30 sec . I don't think that's to bad a job . she is a bit LOUD on the intake pulse's got a idea to cure that tho . and swung here over in the corner for now and hooked up to the shop lines .

sorry no video yet . . . got to figure out how to load that if I take one.

then I finished up the BIG boy to the point I just need a high pressure line from pump to tank inlet / and power to motor just need to get a cord .

here is the rubber sandwich I did for both . rubber between old top plate to new 1/4" 6 pads total . 4 pads between adjustable electric motor mount and top plate . then 2 strips between pump and top plate .

and last this top port inside of it is a 2x45*seat line a brake line . . . .

is this the start up unloader valve port ? ? ?

That looks like a head unloader which would be used for constant run control with a pilot valve? You can leave as is.

Many stationary pumps are "stop start" control with a pressure switch.

All gas engine pumps are "constant run" and use a pilot valve rather than electrical pressure switch.

You can also plumb it for both and have a "dual control" pump.

Basically what the pilot valve does is apply line pressure to hold the intake valves closed when no air is needed, letting the pump "free wheel". This prevents lots of motor start cycles. But you need a pilot valve to make it work.

Just to be sure, is that block fitting right below it, a "T" fitting that goes into the head? If yes, I'd say its definitely an unloader. You can plug if you wish.

tee fitting below it and the lines go to the front and rear of the main case body kind a line a crank case vent I am thinking . . . .

I hand spun the pump and no pressure was felt there at the open port in question with free flow air out the discharge or plugged off at discharge to make a restriction .

Man that T30 resembles a creature contrasted with the pump you took off. You may need to extend the top plate to fit the pump and engine. got some 30w non-detergent for a test run and flush out . didn't wana spend $$$ on the ir stuff just yet .

hooked up my wiring 100%

got the unloader line done and installed .

then fired it up and let her run for a min or so free air no hose yet. sounded real good over the air wush wush wush all I could realy hear was the motor just a touch . this one is a LOT quieter on the intake . might have to get me one of these filters and adapt it down to the older ones intake size.

got my plan for the discharge hose just got to get the parts and do it up .

thinking ****** out / 90* / small chunk of line / 90* / small chunk of line over the head / 90* down to the hose in a almost straight line to the unloader .

I have to get my hands on the hose at the local shop again and see how far I can flex it . might just buy it as they got a few smaller cut off's . then bring it home and see what I can wiggle out of it to keep the pipping to a minimum .

could to a ****** / 90* / ****** / 45* point 45* down to unloader / hose / 45* / ****** in to check valve this way . lot less.

Looks great, by my math that computes to 18.9 CFM. Glad we were able to help. Wish we could that kind of CFM out of 5 HP here in Colorado. Everything here that has an air intake is downrated for our high altitude... If you need 5 HP at sea level, here you buy 7.5 HP, if you need 7.5 HP at sea level, here you buy 10 HP... Now you just need to post a 20 second run video, close to where it shuts off because they are typically louder at higher pressure.

and whats the way to calculate the cfm ? ?

also my elevation is 900 and around hear is in the mid 800-1200ft on average . some a bit higher .

The formula I use is

(tank size in gallons) / 7.48 * (pressure made) / 14.7 / (time in minutes)

In your case

80/7.48 * 175/14.7 / 6.75

= 18.9

Elevation is not much of a factor until you get high. I'm around 6500-6600 ft. It's not uncommon for folks out here to live 6,550, 8,600, or even higher.

the more I test and tweek a few things . . . . . the more I LOVE the big 2545 pump . its so nice to have a real pump . no more cheepy junk .

the noise level is decent but not bad at all for this unit .

she is nice and steady level of reg noise it makes . nothing crazy or louder near the end of a top off cycle of the pressure switch kickon/off. she is set for 145on/175off currently .

just need to pick the old girl up with the engine hoist and set her back in the corner were she was and position it for the new position I want it at . then plumb in the new filter/separator and regulator unit and she be ready for a bolt down to the floor again WITH rubber pads also .

so I got a size reference pic today for some of you on the BIG pump . note the can of brake parts cleaner center top of pump .


I also got a 1/2"x50ft flexzilla hose with 4 Milton G type ends for it to match the flow . this will let me use the gun I have had for some time but unable to for hose/cfm limitations. 3/4" impact gun built in ir plants but painted green and labeled bosch . note the reducer bushing . I tried to make it work with reg hose and fittings . . . didn't wana play ball. .

and last I come up with a pair of names for the small guy and the BIG guy . . .

small update .

storage tank in and working great at the end of the line .

next is I got a newer style filter/silencer intake unit for the small 234 pump over the original cone that took pads I didn't have .

WOW what a noise level drop from the install of the unit . this one is made just like the newer factory ir units like on my bigger 2545 pump . but smaller for the 3/4" inlet . it flows 20cfm and the pump does 9cfm so were good now.

oh **** here we go again

found these 2 at a local shop Friday . I know the owner and him/my self worked a good deal .

if the insides were to rusty and full of junk I pay $0.00 . . . . and if o.k. and can use them I pay $200.00 for the pair .

there both 80 gal and 200psi rated max tanks .

also there good inside so I guess I need to pay him now.

going to swap the small pump unit setup over to the black 80 gal tank . at the same time this will let me bump the pressure switch up to the full 175 psi the pump can do . since the 60 gal tank its on now is only a 145psi tank .

then I will be swapping out the horizontal 60 gal storage/ballist tank for the vertical 80 gal blue tank . get me more floor space over the lay down style.

and if you didn't notice yes the new black 80 is a twin to my original . . . .

also plan on selling the 60 gal horizontal to reclaim some cash back . .

didn't take to long to install the blue tank to the system from when i purchased it 10-24-16 . . . . did it today 12-14-19 . . .

holding 120psi of regulated air just fine . hose real feeds off it and ball valves for feed to tank / to hose real / drain port on the bottom .

also swapped around my cutting gas bottle layout and put them tank right and blue air tank on left . the corner flows much better now .

so i have a bit of a update / upgrade story . . .

i found a deal local on a blast box and he was selling the compressor also and i just couldn't let the deal go so i purchased both units .

i now have a all original SUPER clean / low hr's run 2420n5 t-30 setup . my plan was to swap it for the smaller 234 setup i had put together from parts . she is a nice unit the 2420n5 at 16.8 cfm and runs good . i am missing the super smoth quiet operation tho of my other 2 units in all rubber mounting like i learned from a member here years ago . so at some point it will get modded and mounted in rubber . and the 2420n5 i got EVERY tag / slip / packing bill / purchase paper with it its so clean and he even did the install date in sharpie on the mag start box 5-22-96 . this guy was old school class act all the way . . .

so today i figured why not fire up the old 234 unit and let her stretch her legs after being off line for a few years . . . well she purrrrrrssss so smooth and quiet i am not sure i wish to let her go and might just find a way to keep her around . . .

so yes we all know on this site we each have addictions to specific items and i guess i have fallen for the older t-30 pump REAL USA pump I.R. compressors . . .

i will say that every mod / build / find i have done so far on these 3 and there extra storage tanks has been GREAT . . . well worth every penny i have spent and wouldnt do over again any other way . . . . unless i found a HUGE tanks and screw compressor maybe . . .just maybe . . .

well the next chapter started today for the big 2545 pump . i had a friend who years ago drug this massive unit home and its real clean minus the busted mag start / 10hp 3 ph motor and missing copper pipe . she seems to make compression by hand so maybe the pump is good . this unit is a 120 gal tank and the same 2545e10 pump as the one i used to build my big unit a few years ago in this thread .

plan is to clean the oil slime out of the bottom and inspect tank . then clean up the whole unit outside and swap my pump parts over to the bigger tank . and get the combo back to a more original look .

After reading the whole thread (coming from the other one where you were asking how to clean up a grease tank) I thought about asking how did your set up "end up" looking but... seems like you are constantly improving so if you don't mind me asking, how is your set up at the moment and what are the near future plans for it if any? she recently got a mag start installed to help on start up as the pressure switch was rated for the amps but long term didn't like it and about every 1.5 years i put a new switch on . so this time it got a new switch and a mag relay .

otherwise i have had zero problems with the home brew setup . i am currently at just over 300 gal of air storage with the 2nd compressor . i am wanting to add in that 120 gal tank to have a bit more air on hand . its crazy i know but the longer between runs the better i think and the more time for the air to cool when using the blast box for less moisture . and i have a moisture separator on each compressor and before inlet of blast box and plasma cutter .

my little guy i built is living the good life up at a friends wood shop were he does custom wood working . he loves it and how quiet it is .
