The shop kitchen...

So my shop is an industrial building about 7 miles from my house. When I get hungry I have two choices: Go home, or go to Taco Bell. Usually when I'm interuppted by food it becomes the end of my work day.

So, I've decided to put together a little kitchen in my shop. Anybody have anything similar? I already have a fridge, and a place for an 8' countertop with a sink in it. I need a microwave, and maybe a propane stove. And some cabinets to store food in. I also want to get a BBQ down there this summer.

Mostly I'm wondering how I'm going to somewhat seperate the "kitchen" from the main shop area. I prefer not to have welding slag on my cheeseburgers. :lol_hitti And what should I store food in? I'm thinking like normal kitchen cabinets, but they'd probably need to be completely sealed/air tight to keep dust out. Much of the actual eating would be done outside, I have a couple different covered picnic areas, but I guess I need to build the counter with a place for a stool or something to sit and eat.

Thoughts? Ideas? Pictures? Been there, done that, got the T-shirt and the beer belly?

What about building the whole thing into a closet. You could build doors to make it as tight as you want. Since you are using propane, what about a RV stove? Leave an opening underneath for the stool? Get a microwave that goes over the stove? Small bar sink? Maybe even a granite counter top:bounce:

This made me think about those PC desks that are hidden in a wardrobe. maybe you could scale that idea up if you do any body work I would think that an extractor hood would be a nessesity to gatch any grease of oil.

I wander if you could find an old gas BBQ and sink it into the counter like a sink (careful of the heat) and then you could use that and simply use pans on top of the grill.
OR..... you could leave the bbq on its wheels so that you could wheel it outside for better weather.

Got a 26' x 30' and want to extend it to 47' x 26' and I have a kitchen in mind for that, actually going to be a full kitchen and that side will be seperated by a sealed off people door, although I will park cars in there it eventually be a suite for the kid when he goes to collage, the house is 40 ft. away but is set up as 2 suites even though we now occupy the whole house. Going to move out to the country later on in life , sooner the better and live full time at the cottage. I like 77fixer's idea, show us some pics of what you end up doing.

Yep, I have... ice maker, microwave, convection oven (big toaster oven, big enough for two pizza's), sink in the bathroom, frig, deep freeze, electric hot plate, propane grill, 2 deep fryers, crock pots, ect. Almost a full kitchen in a 8' section of counter.

And my garage is 25' from the house. If I'm working in the garage, I almost always eat out there. If I stop and eat in the house, then I have to take off the boots and usually end up in the house wayyy tooo long.

Nice to throw in a frozen pizza and keep working while it cooks.

Also nice when we throw parties, keep the mess out of the house.

How about an old 'fridge for food storage? Don't power it up just use it for dry storage. Don't know if it would need a vent. my.02$

Another idea might be to use regular cabinets but keep your food in air tight plastic storage containers (AKA Tupperware).

Call some local contractors and ask them if they know of any kitchen remodels happening, you could score a range and stove for free by being there at the demo. Used microwaves are plentiful at $20-50 apice, I just sold one for $5 at a garage sale.
