Thermostat help.

I’m trying to install a new thermostat but do not know what to do?
I have attached a picture of the old one still hooked up and the instructions from the new Honeywell programable I bought the other day. Where do I hook the wires? Please help!

Looks like you have a two stage thermostat currently installed but did not get a two stage stat to replace it. W1 first stage of heat W2 is secondsecond. Unless you have a heat pump and they're using one W as a stage then W1 to W on new and W2 to Aux. Maybe you have electric? That looks like an old Trane stat.

You are absolutely correct! It is an electric furnace (Trane) and it has a two stage blower. The hardware store must have sold me the wrong thermostat then? I should get a two star thermostat is what you are saying?
I really appreciate the guidance.

I would say so. Seems to be what's missing on the new is a place for the second stage.

I got a new thermostat it is a Honeywell RTH 7400/7500 series, Can you tell me if this one is comparable and will work?

Yes.... It will work.... Follow set up menu to your specific unit type(electric heat)
