hey im new here, yes i have used the search but nothing relating to what i typed in comes up.

i got a bunch of free plastic tiles (vct?) from my friend. i'd like to make a floor out of them, and then maybe clear coat ontop of them. the thing is, the tiles are all different colors, can i use like a wall paint, paint the tiles one color and then throw some flake from home depot over that and then clear? this floor is going to be abused, so im not looking to spend ALOT of money on it, i just want something nice that isn't going to retain so much dust like my bare concrete does. you can sweep all you want in my garage and its always dusty.

ok now i also need to know what type of glue i should use to glue these tiles down, and what is a decent clear that will hold up good to abuse.

heres a picture of the garage, i do ALOT of work on cars in here...

I would not paint them, it won't hold up. I'd come up with either a random pattern for all the different colors, or come up with a design that looks like you wanted it that way.
The standard tile adhesive should work to glue them down.

theres no way i could arrange them to make it look good, they all have different texture patterns, how would the paint not hold up if i clear over it?

floor would take alot of work, has little imperfections everywhere. nothing too serious like cracks, just small divits from stuff falling, being dragged and stuff like that.

if your thinking of painting tiles, why not just paint the floor?

That's kinda what I thought too. If you're putting down tiles & painting them, what purpose are the tiles?

I wouldn't think latex type paint would stick, it would just peel up like dried paint in a bucket. If you're using high dollar paint, you'd have to clean it, prime it....you'd start spending some time & money.

I'd say if you're going to put tiles down that are multi-colored and would have to paint the tiles so they would look ok, then put down epoxy clear coat on top of that to protect the paint....then just put down epoxy to start with and forget the tiles.

If you can't use the tiles as they are, what purpose do they serve?

I wonder if you could get the bondtite 1109 for VCT and have color added to it. if you could do that it would give you what you're wanting.
