Time delay to report spam.

Noticed today a time delay to report spam and in the time it took me to report one or two posts by Nic43Lan as spammer he had made more posts.

I also note many of these new spammers are working on the forum in my Aussie time frame so Mods and Admin are not about.

My logout issues etc. recently make me even more aware that many things these people post are not safe to click on.

Noted . Even then every post you report has a report time delay of a minute.

I did consider asking Ryan for a ban hammer to use on spam as I see a lot of it shortly after it is first posted. A lot of it seems to be posted when us down under are reading.

Every one has a different time frame they get on the forums. Even us Aussies and Kiwis.

Well Ryan is on the ball, I sat after a time reading his reply and realised Ryan would have dealt with all that I reported about 1am his time in Texas. That is if I got my time difference worked out correctly. Another problem I see is multiple reports on spam if no one says reported ?

Still each report of a spam post had to have a break of one minute before you could report the next spam post. I have not noticed that before as usualy I only see one post and they are deleted so promtly. Lately the forum has had multiple attacks by the same poster posting the same thing over and over under different topics.

I have been pondering about joining the Alliance either here or the HAMB but at present I can not see the value in it but would like to help Ryan in some way specialy when you realise Ryan runs multiple forums and must get so tired of all the rubbish on all the forums.

Simon, I never post on spam threads.
Usually just report it and move on.
If multiple spams by same guy, I just report one of them.

The spam posts I reported had all been made on current topics and had not been started as new topics. All the posts had the little red X and all had when I checked the links to the same thing whatever it was as I never look any links like that.

Clive you have a good point as if one post is reported then Mods or Admin will investigate the poster further just as I looked to see what he had psoted in other topics discoering the links in every topic to be the same.

Ryan may offer more information on ths for us so all members know what is best to do with these spam posters.

The 60 second delay before you can report another spammer is a pain. I occasionally find more than one spammer's posts at a time and it'd be easier if I could just BAM BAM BAM report each spammer back to back rather than report one, then read another thread, then report another, read another thread, etc...

The golden rules here on the GJ.

1, Report all spammers. If the spammer has multiple posts just report the one post and state multiple spam posts by this spammer in your report message. (otherwise you will be forever sending reports).

2, Never quote a spammer. (OK not easy). Anything with the dreaded Red X is a dead give away as a spam post.

3, Never post you have reported a spammer otherwise you may also end up on a banned list with the spammer. That means never reply to the post. Please use the report button to open a message box that will allow you to send information to Admin and the Mods so they can delete the post you have reported. The report button is located under the members details you wish to report.

If in doubt PM the Admin or a Mod for help.

it prevents someone from causing havok to the mods...
if someone got mad at TGJ, then they could flood the moderators with fake reports just to cause headaches..
the 60sec delay is a great solution to prevent that.

Sometimes a spammer may have multiple logon details and the same IP address so they still get bounced on very quickly. Banning is often done by an IP address and that can take out a few spammers at one time.

Usualy the spam poster has made more than one post before it gets picked up so if you only report the one post the other posts get found in the clean up.
If you see they have made more than one post just say in the one report multiple spam poster.

If you try to respond to more than one topic in a minute you will find you get the same time delay before you can post again. So the same thing happens when you report spammers. The forum just requires a minute before you can make any new replies and reports.
